Nobody was hurt, and nobody escaped Monday when a Somerset County corrections van carrying a pair of prisoners skidded off the road in Jefferson.
Maj. Ken Mason of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said the van, which was headed to the Maine State Prison in Warren, skidded off Route 32 during a snowstorm and plowed through a snowbank.
The crash caused no damage to the van.
“Obviously they were driving slow, not to mention the snowbanks are pretty soft and puffy,” Mason said.
The crash occurred around 9:30 a.m. just north of Woodchuck Way, Mason said.
He said a wrecker tugged the van out of the snowbank and it was on its way.
“A lot of time, during these storms, that’s all it takes,” Mason said.
