Our local Healthy Maine Partnership, Healthy Communities of the Capital Area, has, in the last 12 months, provided a huge amount of support to our church regarding our tobacco-free policy. Staffers came to educate our church leadership about the difference between a smoke-free and tobacco-free policy, provided state laws and signage. Most importantly, HCCA provided a tobacco training session for our leadership and congregation to help us with communicating and how to best support and walk alongside of those who are attempting to quit.

The magnitude of homelessness, hunger and substance abuse is both sad and stunning right here in Augusta. It takes an entire community working together to bring hope, health and healing. We are thankful for our Healthy Maine Partnership, Healthy Communities of the Capital Area, and the difference it is making in our community. The state funding for this important resource is being threatened. It would be a tremendous loss to this community if funding ceased.
