READFIELD — The Maranacook boys basketball team took an 11 point lead into the fourth quarter and managed to hold on from there for a 54-50 upset of Gardiner in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference action Thursday night.

Kent Mohlar had a game-high 19 points to lead the Black Bears (7-11), while Cam Brochu chipped in with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Levi Emery finished with 12 rebounds while Jason Brooks added eight points and as many assists.

Eli Fish paced Gardiner (13-5) with 13 points, while Jordan Lamb and Brad Weston each finished with 12.

MESSALONSKEE 52, LAWRENCE 46: Nick Mayo finished with 21 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks and four assists as the Eagles held off the Bulldogs in Oakland.

Jack Bernatchez just missed out on a double-double for Messalonskee (13-5) with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Dustin Simpson-Bragg led Lawrence (4-13) with 12 points.

For Messalonskee the win comes on the heels of a 54-49 victory Wednesday night in which May had 27 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and five blocks.

MONMOUTH 63, WISCASSET 39: Nick Sanborn scored 14 points to lead four Mustangs in double figures in a win over the Wolverines in MVC action in Monmouth Wednesday.

Luke Thombs finished with 13 points for Monmouth (9-9), Nick Menice added 12 and Hunter Richardson chipped in with 10.

Nathaniel Woodman had eight points to pace Wiscasset (4-14).

OLD ORCHARD BEACH 43, RICHMOND 40: Cameron Emmons, Tyler Soucy, Zach Small and Bailey Johanson each scored seven points, but it wasn’t enough for the Bobcats in a loss to the Seagulls in Richmond.

Brendan Emmons added four points for Richmond (10-7), while Evan Christensen scored nine points for Old Orchard (11-7).

The loss was the second close defeat in as many nights for the Bobcats, as Small finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds in a 51-45 loss Wednesday against Valley.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

OAK HILL 59, MT. ABRAM 17: Bri Mulherin scored 11 points and the Raiders rolled to the MVC win in Salem.

Grace Sabine chipped in with eight points for Oak Hill (12-6).

Mt. Abram finished 2-16.

MONMOUTH 50, WISCASSET 34: The Mustangs held the Wolverines to just eight points in the first half en route to an MVC win.

Sidney Wilson and Tia Day paced Monmouth (13-4) with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Alecia Faulkingham had 10 points to lead Wiscasset (4-14).

OLD ORCHARD BEACH 40, RICHMOND 27: Sydney Tilton had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds but it was not enough as the Bobcats fell to the Seagulls (14-3).

Autumn Acord added nine points for Richmond (11-6), while Meranda Martin chipped in with six rebounds and three assists.

LAWRENCE 67, MESSALONSKEE 40: Nia Irving poured in 31 points and pulled down 18 rebounds as the Bulldogs bounced back from their first loss of the season with a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A win over the Eagles.

Dominique Lewis added 10 points and eight assists for Lawrence (16-1), while Paige Belanger and Abby Weigang finished with eight points each.

Sophie Holmes was the lone Messalonskee (9-9) player in double figures with 14 points, McKenna Brodeur chipped in with nine and Halee Flewelling had eight.
