As we remember the Holocaust of 70 years ago and the phrase “never again,” we see how far those words are from the current truth. We have Boko Haram now, and Pol Pot before that. In the Slav republics and many other areas, man’s inhumanity to man is being experienced without any help from not only America but all its allies. They are too obsessed with the ongoing fight to stop terrorism in Afghanistan and Iraq to pay attention to what’s going on in these other countries.

This old veteran would remind all of us in America that from 1941-45, we fought the good fight on two continents and won. Isn’t it time to again show our strengths and also take on the genocide going on all over the world? Isn’t that what our allies are for?

Something is wrong when the most powerful country in the world is stymied in Third World countries when we won World War II in four horrific years?

America, with all its faults, is a country that will try to stop hunger in other countries while we have people starving right here at home. It seems to me that it’s time for America to show its true strengths and make another pledge: “Never Again” shall be a thing of the past.

A reminder: This week is National Salute to Veteran Patients Week. Americans are urged to visit and volunteer at VA medical centers and to send valentines and letters of thanks to those who have protected our nation.
