The column in the Feb. 2 Kennebec Journal (Don Roberts, “Augusta city politics are changing”) about Augusta city government, especially the current City Council, has me reflecting on why I live and do business is Augusta. Frankly, I am honored to do both.

Perhaps the most striking thing about Augusta is how well people work together. When was the last time Augusta made news because people couldn’t find common ground or work together? Because city government is nonpartisan, the council isn’t encumbered with ideological baggage. What’s more, in this “bastion of liberalism,” we have a Republican state senator and House member who are widely respected, willing to work across party lines and were re-elected convincingly with strong support across all lines.

Augusta is well run and in good hands. Things get done here that are the envy of our neighbors. We should take pride in our accomplishments and the teamwork that makes them possible.
