I’ve found myself differing in opinion with our governor, but never more than now as he belittles the importance and impact of our museums and archives. We not only enjoy learning about our past, we also had better well learn from our past.

I agree that some concerns, such as day care problems, may come before museums, but we mustn’t forget that our past is our future.

I am most familiar with our Skowhegan Historical Museum, which has become one of the best in our state.

Every time I pass through it and learn something new from the well-informed, dedicated volunteers, I realize what a great tool it is for guiding our young people as to what was important in days gone by and how important that is to our lives of today. If we don’t learn from the past, we will repeat our mistakes in the future.
