Skowhegan Parks & Recreation Department to offer tubing, skating, fitness camp, more

Skowhegan Parks & Recreation Department has announced its February vacation activities, Feb. 13-23.

• Friendship Dance, first through fifth grade is planned for 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the community center. Music will be provided by DJ Mike, and refreshments will be served. Cost is $5 per person.

• Tubing at Eaton Mountain is set for 6-9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15.

Cost is $5 per person. Participants must register at the community center; space is limited.

Registrations will not be accepted at the mountain.

• Ice Rink Fun Day is set for 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at the public skating rink, Skowhegan Fairgrounds.

Participants can toast marshmallows and hot dogs and drink hot chocolate by the fire. A broomball game without skates will start at 12:30 p.m.

• Fun & Fitness Camp for second through fifth graders is planned for 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 17-20.

Games and activities including ice skating, snowshoeing and tubing at Eaton Mountain is planned. Participant must bring appropriate clothing for inside and outside play including a clean change of sneakers.

Lunch and snacks will be provided each day. Space is limited. Cost is $20 for Skowhegan residents; $40 for non-residents.

• Public skating times at the public skating rink, Skowhegan Fairgrounds: Noon-7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14; noon-5 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 15; noon-7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16-Thursday, Feb. 19; 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 20; noon-7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 21; Noon-5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22. Skating is free.

• Maine Lego Robotics Workshop for ages 9-14 is set for 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at the community center.

Children can learn how to program, build and work with Lego robots. Previous robotics experience is not required. Lunch and snack will be provided; space is limited. Cost is $10.

• Family and youth open gym times: 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17-Feb. 20; 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22. Parents must register children before they can participate.

There is no fee for Skowhegan residents. It is $50 for a six-month non-resident youth membership, and $95 for a one-year non-resident youth membership.
