AUGUSTA — A Skowhegan man was sentenced to prison for aggravated assault and an Augusta woman was convicted of assault in separate trials this week in Kennebec County Superior Court.

Neal Glenn Teixeira, 31, of Skowhegan, was sentenced on charges of aggravated assault in connection with a March 5, 2013, incident in Waterville and unlawful sexual contact, from Nov. 1, 2012, in Benton.

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with all but two years suspended; eight years of probation with conditions of no use or possession of devices with Internet connections; and a requirement that he become a 25-year registrant under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.

Teixeira had been granted a supervised release pretrial contract in May, but that release was denied by the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department.

“The crimes Teixeira is charged with are egregious enough that for the safety of the community he stay incarcerated,” Somerset County Chief Deputy Dale Lancaster said at the time.

He was charged originally last February with possession of sexually explicit materials depicting someone under 12 years old. He’d been released on a pretrial program on that charge when he was indicted by a Kennebec County grand jury in May on four more felony charges, including two class A gross sexual assault charges.

In other sentences, Roseanna Weymouth, 35, of Augusta, was sentenced to five days in jail and fined $300 following the assault conviction on Wednesday. However, Justice Daniel Billings stayed the sentence pending appeal.

While Weymouth remains free on administrative release, she is prohibited from contact with the man listed as the victim.

The assault, originally charged as domestic violence assault, occurred Sept. 19, on Hospital Street in Augusta.

“We presented a good case and the jury simply didn’t agree with her,” said her attorney, Kevin Sullivan.

On Thursday, a separate jury cleared Matthew T. Savage, 34, of West Brookfield, Mass., of a charge of operating under the influence.

Savage had been charged with the offense on Nov. 2, 2013, in Waterville.

The jury reached the not guilty verdict late Thursday after about three hours of deliberation.

Savage’s attorney, Darrick Banda, said Savage was working in the area on the natural gas pipeline.

“We were able to show through cross-examination of the officer that there were several aspects of the field sobriety tests administered on Mr. Savage that were not done to standards and therefore the results were unreliable,” Banda said.

• Daniel D. Cram, 31, of Clinton, violating conditions of release Sept. 20, in Oakland; 48-hour jail sentence.
