Motorist Muriel Rancourt, center, speaks with Winslow Public Works Director Paul Fongemie, left, and officer John Veilleux after her car drove over a water-filled sinkhole beside Monument Street on Wednesday. The hole, three to four feet deep, was created by a broken water line on Clinton Avenue. “I couldn’t believe it when I hit that,” Rancourt said while waiting for a tow truck. Fongemie said at least six vehicles hit the hole, leaving several with flat tires. The street was closed to traffic Wednesday afternoon while crews from Kennebec Water District repaired the broken pipe. Staff photo by David Leaming
