Messalonskee’s Nick Mayo is one of three finalists for the Mr. Maine Basketball award, who were announced by the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches on Thursday.

Joining Mayo are Kyle Bouchard of Houlton and Jack Simonds of Falmouth. Finalists for Miss Maine Basketball are Hannah Graham of Presque Isle, Victoria Lux of Thornton Academy and Ashley Storey of Greely.

The awards are presented annually to the top senior boys and girls basketball players in the state. The winners will be announced March 13 at the Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Awards Banquet at the Cross Insurance Center.

Mayo, a 6-foot-8 center, averaged 23.2 points, 13.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game for the Eagles this season. He was named Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A Player of the Year and has accepted a scholarship to play basketball at Division I Eastern Kentucky University next season.

Bouchard, a 6-foot-5 power forward, averaged 22 points, 11 rebounds and five assists this season. He plans to attend and play basketball at Division II Bentley University.

Simonds is a 6-foot-6 small forward who averaged 22 points, 12 rebounds and three assists this season. He will attend Division III Bowdoin College and play basketball.

While all three of the Mr. Basketball finalists had their seasons end last week during the regional tournament, all three Miss Basketball finalists will be playing for state championships this weekend.

Graham is a 5-foot-10 point guard who averaged 16.7 points, 3 rebounds and 4.3 assists this season. She plans to attend Bowdoin College in the fall and play basketball, but first will lead Presque Isle into Friday night’s Class B championship game against Greely.

Storey, a 6-foot-3 center, will be there to greet her with the Western B champion Rangers. She averaged 20.6 points, 10.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists this season and plans to attend and play basketball for the University of New Hampshire.

Lux is a 6-foot-1 power forward who has led the Trojans to Saturday’s Class A championship against Lawrence. She averaged 11 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists this season and has committed to play at Bentley.
