A federal judge has struck down Maine’s law allowing residents to purchase their medications from Canada, under an initiative was pushed by the Maine Retail Association and the pharmaceutical companies.

The notion that this initiative was all about customer safety is hogwash. The truth is it’s all about profits and getting more money from those who can least afford it. They should have to show us how many seniors have been harmed by substandard medication from Canada.

These medications come from the same manufacturers as U.S. drugs. Canada medications are regulated by the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association.

Anyone who believed it’s about customer safety has their head in the sand. It’s really about overcharging Maine citizens by 50 percent-70 percent while lining the pockets of the pharmaceutical companies.

We can only hope that Maine appeals this unfair ruling by a judge who is probably not on a Medicare-approved drug program.
