Gas prices in Maine climbed another 6.4 cents a gallon last week, but the rate of increase has begun to slow.

GasBuddy.com, a national price-monitoring website, said Monday the U.S. average price climbed 2.5 cents a gallon, to $2.46 for regular unleaded. The statewide average price of regular unleaded in Maine was $2.47 a gallon.

Maine gas prices are 27.5 cents per gallon higher than in the past month, but still about $1.12 lower per gallon than at this time last year.

Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy, said he expects that price increases will continue to slow down.

The Maine price is based on a survey of more than 1,200 gas stations.
