I have the following concerns about the proposed legislation to lengthen Maine schools days to make up for time lost to snow:

• Most importantly is the quality of that extended day. By the end of the day, the kids are getting tired and losing focus. Are they really going to learn at that point?

• Working parents struggle with their schedules as it is. This extension would place a hardship on many of them to balance work and home issues.

If the goal is just to salvage the summer break, these issues should take priority.
