This situation has bothered me for a long time.
Since 1870, when Maine’s Roman Catholic diocese became its own and separate, every one of the bishops has been of Irish descent. I find this to be odd since at least 40 percent of all Catholics in Maine are of French descent.
I have nothing against the good Irish people in Maine, but it seems like preferential treatment as the archdiocese of Boston is a hotbed of Irish politics, as we all know. I remember Bishops Edward O’Leary, Daniel Feeney, etc., and they were all good men who I respected.
But how about a little equality for a change?
