Police in Hallowell are searching for those responsible for spray-painting graffiti Monday night on three Water Street buildings.

Chief Eric Nason said the three brick buildings at 107, 110 and 120 Water Street were tagged mostly with yellow paint. The markings include a poem and other words written in bubble letters. Nason said the words themselves were not offensive. Two of the buildings are separated by a vacant lot, and the third is across the street, Nason said.

Nason learned of the graffiti around 8 a.m. Tuesday, when police were called about one of the buildings.

“We discovered two more,” Nason said.

Nason is unsure when the buildings were tagged. He said the paint was not there Monday evening.

“It was sometime during the overnight,” he said.

Nason said the paint can be removed or painted over.

The chief asked that anyone who saw something suspicious in the area or who has information about who could be responsible to call police at 622-9710.
