Friday the 13th was a truly unlucky day for the town of Benton. With 1,921 registered voters in this town, a whopping 94 people came out to vote.

As a Benton resident, I am ashamed. If all the people who complain about everything couldn’t be bothered to vote, they have no right to complain. Only the 94 people who voted have the right to voice their opinion.

When things go against what all those others believe, I will remind them they should have voted.

The only ones who didn’t vote who are excused are those physically unable to get to the polls and the working people who were excluded by the five-hour voting window. What was the idea of a 1-6 p.m. open poll? I’m guessing the reason was some political agenda, with town politicians to blame for the very low voter turnout.

Whatever the reason, residents of the town of Benton should be embarrassed.
