I moved back to Maine last May after being gone for 44 years. I spent 15 of those years volunteering for various committees in my community while serving on the school board for eight years.
I was eager to volunteer in my new home of Readfield and was appointed to the Trails Committee. I spent the summer and fall volunteering some of my free time establishing and maintaining the trails in Readfield. It was amazing how much time the committee spent trying to keep up with the new trails and maintaining the existing trails.
But this past winter, my enthusiasm has dimmed because it seems as if the Select Board keeps throwing roadblocks in front of the hard-working group of volunteers on the Trails Committee.
I was really getting discouraged when I noticed a new committee was established in Readfield, the Readfield Citizens Unite Committee. Its values, as posted on its website, readfieldcitizensunite.com, coincide with mine, and I am once again encouraged that Readfield town government might change for the better in the future.
