Highlights of Thorndike Town Meeting and elections, held Saturday.

BUDGET: $380,892 approved. $374,392 originally proposed.

MAJOR ITEMS APPROVED: $125,000, winter roads. $65,000, summer roads.

MAJOR ITEMS REJECTED: $3,000, additional clerk hours.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS: Attempt to cut legal fund from $14,000 to $7,000 defeated. Out of total budget, $183,240 to be raised from municipal taxes, $197,652 from other revenue and savings accounts. Road commissioner pay increased by $500. Sand and salt budget shed budget doubled to $5,000. Fire truck reserve fund increased by $7,500 to $10,000. ”

CONTESTED ELECTION RESULTS: First selectman: Jim Bennett, 54; Jeff Fowler, 39. Second selectman: Larry Ward, 45; Jeff Fowler 41.
