The View from Away from Newsday, “Shocking waste of food,” on the March 5 opinion page, reported that one-third of the food in this world is thrown out, even as millions go hungry. That is an inexcusable, tragic waste.

The argument that we are not able to get any of it to those millions of our hungry brothers and sisters in this world is not convincing.

Well-deserving troops stationed in faraway places receive special holiday meals. Shipments of lobsters make it quickly to all points in this world.

When there is a will to do something, a way is found. The Marshall Plan following World War II got food where it was needed. Have we forgotten how caring can make important things happen?
