Open houses planned at 10 preschool centers Tuesday, April 14, through Thursday, April 16

In recognition the 50th anniversary of the federally funded Head Start program, Southern Kennebec Child Development Corp. will hold open houses at 10 early childhood education centers April 14-16.

“We hope that many, many people will stop in and enjoy the activities and festivities the teachers have planned. There will be children’s art shows, demonstrations of early literacy, math and music curriculum for young children, and many hands on fun learning activities for children to engage in. Parents and community members will enjoy seeing the comprehensive Head Start program and meeting its wonderful staff. This is a great community activity after a long winter,” said SKCDC Executive Director Michele Pino in a news release from the corp.

Planned open houses:

Tuesday, April 14

• 1-2:30 p.m. Lake Region Head Start, tour the Head Start Center, 165 Lakeview Drive, South China.

Wednesday, April 15

• 12:30-1:30 p.m., South Gardiner Center — Children’s Art Show, 721 River Road, South Gardiner.

• 2:30-4 p.m., Gardiner Head Start — Children’s Art Show, 12 Plummer St., Gardiner.

• 5-6 p.m., Webster Head Start — Children’s Sensory Activities, 34 Franklin St., Augusta.

• 5:30-7 p.m., Magic Years Center — Literacy & Art Activities, Art Show, 25 Industrial Drive, Augusta.

• 6-7 p.m., Mount Vernon Elementary — Children’s Art Show, 1507 North Road, Mount Vernon.

• 6-7 p.m., Readfield Elementary — Art Themed Activities, 84 South Road, Readfield.

• 6-7 p.m., Henry L. Cottrell School — Math Games for Children, 169 Academy Road, Monmouth.

• 6-7 p.m., Winthrop Grade School — “Things That Grow” Activities, 23 Highland Ave., Winthrop.

Thursday, April 16

• Noon-1:30 p.m., South Gardiner Center — Music, Rhythm & Movement, 721 River Road, South Gardiner.

• 6-7 p.m., Chelsea Elementary — Language and Literacy Activities, 566 Togus Road, Chelsea.

Children and families are welcome to sign up for Head Start, Early Head Start or full-time child care at any of the open houses. The agency serves about 300 families each year and has programs for families expecting children, infants, toddlers and preschoolers, according to the release.
