U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, will be the special guest speaker Wednesday at the 10th annual Geriatrics Day Conference at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
The daylong conference will address a variety of health care issues related to the growing senior population in Maine and the nation. It also will provide an opportunity for health care professionals to earn credits toward continuing education certification.
Collins has promoted action on a variety of aging issues in her roles as chairwoman of the Senate Special Committee on Aging and Senate co-chairwoman of the Congressional Task Force on Alzheimer’s Disease.
Conference topics will range from “Fixing the Care System to Work for Frail Elders” to “Drug-Free Dementia: Ending the Pill Paradigm in Dementia Care.”
The conference is presented by the Alfred & Suzi Osher Endowment Fund, Maine Medical Center and MaineHealth.
