Maine Students for Climate Justice, a coalition of college groups, organized a protest that involved hundreds Saturday. The event, called Generation Climate Rising, was held near the State House, included a group beating on a drum in the plaza between the State House and the Cross State Office Building in Augusta, and urged state leaders to take action to diminish the effects of climate change. The student group is critical of Republican Gov. Paul LePage’s support for natural gas and doesn’t want the state to invest in any new fossil fuel infrastructure. The group says Maine needs to pursue fossil-free energy policies.
