SKOWHEGAN — A special town meeting has been called by the Skowhegan Board of Selectmen for 7 p.m. Tuesday following the board’s regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers at the Town Office on Water Street.

The reason for the meeting is to authorize selectmen to transfer an amount not to exceed $15,000 for unanticipated expenses for fire hydrants and street lights. The cost for electricity and water are higher than what was budgeted at last year’s annual Town Meeting. Municipalities are not allowed to exceed approved budgeted amounts without approval of voters at a special town meeting. The current budget year expires June 30.

Selectmen recommend passage of this article.

The town Registrar of Voters will hold hours for the purpose of revising and correcting the list of voters from 4 p.m. Tuesday until the close of special town meeting.
