AUGUSTA — Maine wild turkeys take note: a flock of young hunters is headed your way.

Maine’s Youth Spring Wild Turkey hunting day is Saturday for residents and non-residents. Youths between the ages of 10 and 16 who hold a junior hunting license may hunt under adult supervision. State officials say junior hunters can hunt with a shotgun, bow and arrow or crossbow and take up to two bearded wild turkeys.

The adult accompanying the child must be 18 years old or older and hold a valid Maine hunting license or complete a hunter safety course.

Hunters cannot exceed hunting limits in individual wildlife management districts and should consult with state hunting regulators about those limits. The full season for wild turkey begins Monday and lasts until June 6.
