AUGUSTA — Three women convicted of felonies were among those sentenced to prison or jail terms Wednesday in Kennebec County Superior Court cases heard at the Capital Judicial Center.

A New York woman pleaded guilty Wednesday to unlawful possession of more than 4 grams of cocaine base last December and was sentenced to 20 months in prison.

Kimberly Marie Maldonado, 47, also agreed to forfeit $5,257 seized from an Augusta hotel room she and a codefendant were renting on Dec. 10.

Maldonado also was fined $400. In exchange for the guilty plea, other drug-trafficking charges were dismissed.

At a separate hearing in the same court, Heather M. Wilkinson, 49, also known as “Ma Duke,” of Augusta, was sentenced to serve an initial nine months behind bars, with the remainder of the four-year sentence suspended, and was placed on probation for two years after she pleaded guilty to heroin trafficking. She also was fined $400.

The prosecutor, Assistant Attorney General Katie Sibley, told Justice Donald Marden that Wilkinson had no prior criminal record and was being used by codefendant Peter Hernandez “as a buffer.” Sibley said Wilkinson was under the influence of heroin but cooperative when she and Hernandez were arrested Dec. 22 at Wilkinson’s home.

Charges remain pending against Hernandez, who is free on bail. “He was the out-of-state trafficker,” Sibley said.

Wilkinson told the judge that Hernandez “was a friend of a friend.”

Penny Peaslee, 34, of Windsor, was sentenced to serve an initial 75 days of a two-year jail term, with the remainder suspended, and placed on probation for two years after pleading guilty to theft by deception in connection with receipt of welfare benefits. She was ordered to repay the state $10,594. The offense occurred between September 2010 and May 2014 in Winslow.

At a separate hearing Wednesday, Richard Ernest Pepin, 65, of Augusta, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of sexually explicit materials depicting a minor under 12. The offense occurred May 6, 2012, in Augusta. He was ordered to serve an initial six months of a two-year sentence, with the remainder suspended, and placed on probation for two years. He also was ordered to register as a Tier 1 offender, which carries a 10-year registration requirement under the state’s Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.

The judge ordered Pepin to forfeit a cellphone, an SD card, a computer hard drive and 76 CDs and DVDs prosecutors said were used in the crime. As a condition of probation, Pepin may not possess any device capable of Internet access without authorization of a probation officer.
