AUGUSTA — The Kennebec Valley YMCA will host its third annual Capital Y Tri on Saturday, May 23. The triathlon consists of a 425-yard swim in the competition pool, an 11-mile bike ride along the Kennebec River Rail Trail through Augusta, Hallowell, Farmingdale and back to the Augusta YMCA campus, and finishes with a 3.1 mile run along the Kennebec River Rail Trail to Maine Housing Authority, and back through Capitol Park ending at the Augusta YMCA, according to a news release from the YMCA.

The cost to participate is $75 per person or $115 per relay team. All non-USAT members must pay an additional $12 one-day USAT temporary membership fee and fill out the appropriate paperwork to participate. USAT members must provide both their USAT membership number and membership expiration date at the time of registration, according to the release. To reserve a space, register online at www.active.com or stop by the membership services desk. Registration is limited to 128 people.

Kennebec Valley YMCA Healthy Living Director Craig Cameron, said in the release “This year’s triathlon is fast approaching, and it’s encouraging to see so much support from our community. Our goal is to help everyone in our community find a path to a healthy lifestyle. This event is a life changing experience for participants and one they will never forget. I encourage all who are interested to take the first step by signing up. Remember, you can also form a team to make it a reality for yourself this year.”

The event is sponsored by Kennebec Savings Bank, Julie Barter Lucas of Edward Jones and O’Connor Auto Park and supported by The Kennebec River Rail Trail, BOB the ScreenPrinter, Riverside Disposal, Auclair Cycle and Ski, Augusta Country Club, Kennebec Community Church, and the municipalities of Augusta, Hallowell and Farmingdale.
