A Unity man was killed early Wednesday morning while riding his skateboard on the Unity College campus.
Christopher Garbinski, 23, died as a result of injuries suffered after he crashed into birch trees around 1:30 a.m. near the college’s entrance on Quaker Hill Road, according to a news release from Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland
Garbinski, who wasn’t a student at the college, according to McCausland, was riding his skateboard with two friends. The trio, led by Garbinski, descended Loop Road toward the intersection of Quaker Hill Road near the entrance to the campus and crashed into the trees.
The other two men, Sylvanus Egerton, 27, and Luke Munster, 24, also crashed in the same area and suffered minor injuries, McCausland said.
The two administered immediate aid to Garbinski and were assisted shortly afterward by Unity EMS, McCausland said. The Waldo County Sheriff’s Department also was at the scene. The state medical examiner’s office will be examining Garbinski’s body to determine the cause of his death, McCausland said.
Garbinski lived in Unity, McCausland said, but an address was unavailable.
