The Waterville post office and the good people of Fairfield, Winslow and Waterville did a magnificent job on May 9 of helping feed those in need.

Postal customers put out food for the mail carriers to take back to headquarters, where volunteers sorted and distributed an amazing amount of food.

The Evening Sandwich Program in Waterville was in particular need for ready meals to hand out. We prepare large amounts of food, but sometimes there are more people than we have food for — we often serve more than 200 meals a night (we just never know how many will come). We now have boxes full of soups, baked beans and more, and we are able to give everyone something to eat. Many thanks to everyone who shared what they could. It was an important thing to do, and many people made a difference.
