LINC Wellness Center, part of Motivational Services Inc., recently was selected from 106 regional applicants to be the recipient of a $3,239 grant from Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation in support of LINC Wellness Center’s garden project. The Harvard Pilgrim Healthy Food Fund supports nonprofit organizations throughout Harvard Pilgrim’s service areas that make fresh and local food easier to find and buy, according to a news release from the center. From farmer’s markets to food pantries, community gardens and cooking classes, there are a number of ways to help low- and middle-income families eat better and foundation is actively supporting these efforts.

Harvard Pilgrim Foundation awarded $221,000 in community garden grants in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

The grant will be utilized for LINC Wellness Center’s 2,400-square-foot garden on Glenridge Drive in Augusta, provided to the center by its parent organization, Motivational Services. Crop selection is made by community volunteers, who also assist with planning, planting, and maintaining the garden. The center also teaches healthy cooking techniques utilizing food grown in the garden.
