BANGOR – A Carmel woman is facing a possible life sentence on federal charges of conspiracy to possess and distribute crack cocaine.

Forty-one-year-old Fern Dowling pleaded guilty to charges Monday in U.S. District Court in Bangor.

Court records say Dowling sold crack in Penobscot County and elsewhere during a nearly four-year period ending in December 2013.

She transferred the proceeds of her sales to her supply source in the New Haven, Connecticut, area in exchange for cash and crack. Prosecutors say other conspirators transferred the crack from Connecticut to the Bangor area.

Dowling faces a minimum of 10 years in prison and a maximum of life along with a possible $10 million fine.

Her sentence is pending the completion of an investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.
