A schoolteacher narrowly defeated incumbent Selectman Philip Johnston in Tuesday elections in Dresden.

The 61-56 vote has put Dale Hinote in office for the next three years.

Voters also opted to send longtime Treasurer Kim Rzasa back to that office after she took a year off.

In a three-way race, she defeated Pat Theriault, who was unopposed for re-election as town clerk as well, and Joe Atkinson, who was seeking re-election as treasurer.

The vote was Rzasa, 69; Atkinson, 33; and Theriault, 18.

Peter Walsh and Sherry Moody were the two top vote-getters as write-ins for the town’s Budget Review Committee. They had been appointed previously, but the town clerk said it was unclear Thursday whether they would continue to serve.

Voters in Dresden also approved, 81-41, the 2015-16 budget for Regional School Unit 2, which consists of Monmouth, Richmond, Farmingdale, Hallowell and Dresden.
