I want to express my appreciation to Cony Principal Kim Silsby, Superintendent Jim Anastasio and Police Lt. Christopher Massey for an excellent forum on June 11 to address Cony’s responses to recent bomb threats.

Their thorough and sensitive explanations about why they responded they way they did, as well as their reflection about how to improve future responses were enlightening, and in the face of these difficult situations, brought some comfort. They did so many things right in considering the appropriate responses to the varied threats, and their explanations solidified my faith in the expertise our of school officials and police agencies.

I took away from that meeting that the best thing that I can do as a Cony parent is to follow the directions of officials, as they carry out their careful and effective plans to keep our children safe. I feel very fortunate to have these leaders in our schools.
