AUGUSTA — A city man already in jail in connection with a string of April burglaries has been linked to a 2011 break-in on Mount Vernon Avenue, police said.
On Tuesday, Jed St. Hilaire, 36, was summoned to court on charges of burglary and unauthorized taking or transfer. He has been in the Kennebec County jail in Augusta without bail since April 27, when he was arrested on a probation hold after being charged with five burglaries at Winthrop businesses earlier that month.
Lt. Christopher Massey, of the Augusta Police Department, said St. Hilaire was linked to a burglary Dec. 18, 2011, at a Mount Vernon Avenue apartment through DNA contained in blood that police collected at the crime scene. Further information about that incident wasn’t available Wednesday.
In 2013, St. Hilaire was sentenced to eight years in prison, with all but 30 months suspended, along with four years of probation, after he admitted to robbery, theft and other crimes for snatching womens’ purses at two Augusta stores and buying drugs with stolen money. He was arrested after a car chase through northwest Augusta and on Interstate 95.
