SKOWHEGAN — A small dog was stolen from Water Street last week, and police are investigating following a report that a man grabbed the brown and black dachshund and drove away.
The theft happened at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Police said a witness reported seeing what appeared to be a young man with the dog under his arm get into a vehicle described as a maroon minivan. The dog had been let outside briefly when it was stolen, Police Chief Ted Blais said. The family that owns the dog lives on Water Street next to Coburn Park, he said.
Blais said the theft first was reported on Skowhegan’s Neighborhood Watch page on Facebook. The theft had not been reported to police otherwise, he said.
Police asked that anyone with information on the stolen dog send a message on the Skowhegan Police Department’s Facebook page or call the police department at 474-6908. Callers will remain anonymous, Blais said.
