LIBERTY — The Sheepscot Wellspring Land Alliance plans to celebrate the Maine outdoors with its annual Midsummer Celebration Thursday, July 16, in Belfast. The picnic will be potluck-style, with grillables and lawn games provided. The event, sponsored by the Freedom General Store, will provide food for the event, according to a news release from the alliance.
The picnic is free to all and will be from 6 to 8 p.m., rain or shine, at the Belfast City Park shelter on City Park Road.
Preceding the picnic at the Belfast City Park shelter, there will be a chance to hear a story in the Maine outdoors using puppets and storytelling. Local artist and educator Dawnella Sutton will engage families with puppets and encourage their participation in reading and acting out the children’s book “Into the Outdoors.” The reading will be followed by an outdoor-themed arts and craft.
Books, puppets and the “Outdoors” will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. and is open to all. The first 18 participating families also will receive a free copy of the book.
