The Maine Majestix wrapped up their three-day tournament at the National Field Hockey Club Championships on Tuesday by going 1-1 to finish out the tournament in Lancaster, Pa. with a 3-3 record.

The Majestix, a Waterville-based club with players from Messalonskee, Skowhegan, Mt. Blue, Winthrop and Belfast high schools, lost to TCOYO of Virginia Beach, Va., 4-1 in the morning, then defeated IFHCK, 4-3, in the afternoon.

Ally Corbett scored the lone Majestix goal in the first game. Kylie Nelson scored twice in the victory. Kelsey Mehuren and Emily Molino each added a goal, while Haley Lowell set up many scoring opportunities in both games.

With its 3-3 record, Maine finished 11th out of the 16 teams competing at the U.S. Field Hockey National Training Center.

“Finishing 11th in the country really gives Maine the credibility it deserves as a state that puts out great field hockey players,” Majestix coach Katie Bernatchez said. “We competed well against the best teams and scored goals in every game.”

Bernatchez recognized “spark plug” center mid Josie Varney for playing virtually every minute of the tournament, along with outstanding defensive work by Corbett, Delaney Keithley, Autumn Littlefield and Hannah Minns and Kelsey Thaller in the cage.
