An Amber Alert was issued Thursday night by law enforcement officials in New Hampshire after a convicted sex offender who used to live in Maine allegedly abducted his 18-month-old son.

Police in Somersworth, New Hampshire, said Malachi Grant of Somersworth was with his mother when he was abducted around 2:30 p.m. by Jeremiah Grant, 43, the boy’s father. It was unclear exactly where the abduction took place.

Police said the father lives in Somersworth but is from Berwick, and may have headed to Maine with his son.

Grant was last seen driving a gray 1991 Honda Accord with a Sunoco sticker on the rear bumper. The car has the New Hampshire license plate 2854569.

The boy has light brown hair and weighs 33 pounds. He was last seen wearing a lime green T-shirt with black stripes, black shorts and navy blue shoes with white laces.

Police said Jeremiah Grant is a registered sex offender in Maine. He is 6 feet tall and weighs 275 pounds. He has a tattoo on the left side of his neck.

Amber Alert is a rapid notification system used to solicit the public’s assistance when a child is abducted and considered to be in grave danger.
