Pittston is holding a special town meeting Wednesday to ask voters for approval to delay the due date of Pittston property taxes by a month until Aug. 31 because the town only recently set this year’s tax rate.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Town Office.

Residents already voted at the Town Meeting in March to make July 30 the due date, but the town couldn’t set its new property tax rate until recently because of late adoption of the state budget, said Jane Hubert, chairwoman of the Selectboard.

The town increased its property tax rate from $13.10 per $1,000 of assessed property value to $13.20, Hubert said. The due date for the second half of the property taxes will remain Dec. 4.

Hubert said the town still might need to take out a tax-anticipation loan before taxes are received.
