AUGUSTA — Disability Rights Maine will host a picnic celebration from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, July 24, in Augusta’s Capitol Park to mark the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Members will commemorate the passage of this civil rights law with food, friends and speakers from the disability community who will share remarks on how their lives were changed by the ADA.

This free event is open to individuals of all ages. Interpreters will be available.

Through its operation of multiple federal and state funded programs, DRM advocates for individuals with disabilities whose rights have been violated, who are at risk of abuse or neglect, or who have faced discrimination on the basis of their disability. DRM seeks redress where rights concerns arise related housing, education, physical access, rehabilitation, health care, community supports, and employment.
