A Freedom man was killed and three others were seriously injured Monday night when a car crashed on North Dixmont Road in Troy.

Scott Anderson Jr., 24, of Freedom, the driver of the car, was killed, the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The injured passengers were Casey White, 20, of Clinton; Jesse Weeman, 19, of Dixmont; and a 16-year-old female passenger who was not identified.

Police said the 2001 Chevrolet Impala that Anderson was driving veered off the road and hit trees around 8:43 p.m. just south of the intersection with Barker Road. The sheriff’s office said the accident happened on a straight section of road and speed was believed to be a factor.

Emergency crews worked for more than an hour to extricate the car’s occupants, according to the release.

Deputy Daniel Thompson and Sgt. James Greeley, of the sheriff’s office, went to the scene, along with the Troy and Unity fire departments. Unity Ambulance and Sebasticook Valley Ambulance crews took the three passengers to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

The sheriff’s office thinks speed was a factor in the crash, which is under investigation.
