A 68-year-old Newcastle man faces a charge of unlawful sexual contact involving a 3-year-old child.
Gary Collamore was arrested July 14 by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office in connection with a case that had been investigated in 2014 but dropped, according to a news release.
In February 2014, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received a referral from the Department of Health and Human Services reporting that Collamore had sexually assaulted a child, the release said. He was not charged because of a lack of evidence, the release said.
Police arrested Collamore in January of this year on an unrelated charge of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon. During his arrest, he made statements about the earlier investigation, which reopened that case, the release said.
After what the release called “an exhaustive investigation,” Collamore was charged with the sex offense. He is being held on $250 bail at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset pending a future court date.
