On June 10, Oakland Lions Club presented a plaque to the Oakland Police Department, with individual certificates to each police officer on staff, expressing appreciation for their service to the Oakland community.
The presentation was held in conjunction with swearing-in ceremony of officers for the coming year. At the same ceremony, the town presented the American Achievement Award to Paul Sheppard, a member of Oakland Lions. A reporter was present, but nothing was printed in the paper.
In the face of all the negativity of police work nationwide, we disagree and were quite disappointed that there was no publicity.
