My husband and I bought a home in Skowhegan many years ago. We had our water tested as required by the bank to get a mortgage for our new home. The water was tested only for being safe to drink.
We had another water test done a few years ago, and it showed we had high levels of arsenic. We now have a water treatment system installed in our home.
My husband has had kidney cancer, and I have had a suspicious growth on one lung. Both of these could have been caused by high levels of arsenic in our drinking water.
We need to continue to promote well water testing in Maine homes.
