While Anthony Lord was allegedly on a rampage in northern Maine the week before last, two law enforcement agencies put a family connected to him in protective custody, WCSH-TV reported.
Last week, Brittany Irish said Maine State Police did not provide her with protection after she reported that Lord had abducted her and raped her multiple times. Lord is accused of then shooting Irish, kidnapping her and touching off a police manhunt during which he killed two men and injured four others.
Danette Robinson said she heard about the rampage when she was watching the daughter of her niece, Jaimie Clark. Clark had a child with Lord, but the baby died in May. That death is under investigation.
Robinson said she, Clark and Clark’s daughter were put into protective custody by Bangor police and the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.
“When it all began they took me to the safe house and they kept us three – Maddy, Jaimie and me – and kept us there all day. They brought us food,” Danette Robinson told the Portland television station.
Her husband, Tim Robinson, was hiking at the time and wasn’t taken into protective custody.
The family said they were grateful for the police help, WCSH reported.
