The Maine State Museum, in conjunction with Comic Geeks Unite, to host Maine Comic Artist and Writer Show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1. Admission is free.

Come meet local artists and writers who make a living in comics — find out how they got started, what their specialty is, and how they honed their techniques. Meet local artists Rick Parker, Hugh Tims and Lisa Trusian who collectively have worked for Marvel, MTV and Mattel, according to a news release from the state museum. Talk to them about creating comic book characters, webcomics and graphic novels. Then venture into the Maine State Museum to learn more about Maine’s contributions to pop culture.

The museum is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $2 for adults; $1 for seniors older than 62 and children 6-18 years old; and free for those younger than 6. Maximum charge for families is $6; cash and checks only.
