The Etna Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded a $238,000 grant as part of the Assistant to Firefighter Grant program.

The grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency was announced Wednesday by U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King and U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin, R-2nd District.

“Etna is home to some of the best firefighters in the Country,” said the three in a news release. “This AFG grant will help give our firefighters the resources they need to purchase new equipment, like a new firetruck, to better protect the Etna community.”

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant provides money for fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations so they can buy equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources to better protect the public and emergency personnel, according to the release.
