The Coast Guard is searching for a woman after finding a man’s body in Chandler Bay off Jonesport.
A husband and wife were seen heading out on the water in a green canoe Saturday morning, said Petty Officer Meghan Manship, and a man’s body was recovered less than a mile offshore around 11 a.m.
Manship said the couple is believed to own a second home on the bay.
The man’s body had a lifevest on, she said.
The Coast Guard has a 47-foot boat on the scene and will continue searching overnight. A Coast Guard helicopter searched earlier and is expected to return in the morning along with the Maine Marine Patrol.
Manship said Chandler Bay is about four to five miles from Jonesport. The bay is between Jonesport and Roque Island, she said.
She said the identity of the man and the woman are not being released immediately.
