Hebron teen injured in Interstate 95 rollover in Sidney

An-18-year-old Hebron woman who might have been using or reaching for her cellphone Thursday while driving a pickup truck on Interstate 95 in Sidney suffered multiple broken bones when the truck went out of control and rolled over several times, according to police.

Elizabeth Pratt got a call on her cellphone at 9:29 a.m. just before the crash was reported at 9:31 a.m. near mile marker 117 northbound, Trooper Samuel Tlumac, of the Maine State Police, said later Thursday.

Pratt, who was not wearing a seat belt, was driving north in a 2002 Ford Ranger pickup just before the crash occurred, and police are not sure whether she got a cellphone call and was trying to reach for her phone or she was talking on the phone, Tlumac said.

“She went off the road on the median side and was driving in the grass, and then she apparently overcorrected because she went back on the road and crossed all northbound lanes, both the breakdown and passing lanes, and rolled over several times,” he said.

When Tlumac arrived at the scene, Pratt was in the back seat of the truck’s crew cab and was conscious and alert, but she suffered several fractured bones, including the humerus and ulna bones in the arm, he said.

“She’s a very lucky little girl,” Tlumac said.

Pratt was taken by Delta Ambulance to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, he said.

A hospital spokeswoman said at 4 p.m. that Pratt was treated at the hospital and released.

Sidney Fire & Rescue helped at the accident scene, Tlumac said.
