Rain expected for Saturday has pared down this year’s Fairfield Days celebration.

The parade and bounce houses have been canceled, according to organizer Stephanie Thibodeau.

Earlier events including the outhouse races, a talent show and a 5-kilometer run/walk already had been canceled because of lack of interest.

“Volunteers and enthusiasm for community events are needed to help make a community strong,” Thibodeau said Wednesday morning. “More people are needed to get involved to make our communities strong and to set a good example for citizenship for our young people.”

The event still will have an outdoors petting zoo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the community center, and indoors a 7-9 a.m. pancake breakfast, children’s games beginning at 9, a pie judging contest, a magic show at 11:45 a.m. and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament.

A 90 percent chance of rain is forecast for Saturday, with thunderstorms in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
