I was on vacation in Augusta recently and was having breakfast at a local restaurant. I was with my family, who had traveled from Wisconsin.

After enjoying our meal, we asked for the bill, and were told that it already had been paid by a woman who was sitting in the booth in front of the five of us. The woman, who had left the restaurant, also included a tip (according to the pleasant and honest waitress).

I have no idea who this generous woman was, but on the chance she is from the area and reads the Kennebec Journal, I want to thank her very much. My family appreciated her thoughtfulness during these difficult days.

In light of her gesture, I want to assure her that I will continue to “pay it forward.”
